Pennsylvania kindergartener uses Hello Kitty bubble-gun at school, suspended for "terrorist threat"

Pennsylvania kindergartener uses Hello Kitty bubble-gun at school, suspended for "terrorist threat":

Mount Carmel Area Elementary School in Pennsylvania suspended a five-year-old girl for pointing a Hello Kitty bubble-gun at another student, characterizing this as a "terrorist threat." The little girl had to undergo psychiatric evaluation before she was allowed back in. Her parents say that they couldn't get their daughter into another school, because no one wanted a kid with "terrorist" on her transcript. They're considering a lawsuit.

The school claims "the information supplied to the media may not be consistent with the facts" but declines to correct the record. They do, however, offer this empty, mealy-mouthed rubbish: "The Mount Carmel Area School District takes the well-being and safety of students and staff very seriously."

The kindergartner, who attends Mount Carmel Area Elementary School in Pennsylvania, caught administrators’ attention after suggesting she and a classmate should shoot each other with bubbles.

“I think people know how harmless a bubble is. It doesn’t hurt,” said Robin Ficker, an attorney for the girl’s family. According to Ficker, the girl, whose identity has not been released, didn’t even have the bubble gun toy with her at school.

Telemundo Anchor to GOP: There Are "Aryan, Blond, Blue-Eyed People" Who Need Immigration Reform, Too

Telemundo Anchor to GOP: There Are "Aryan, Blond, Blue-Eyed People" Who Need Immigration Reform, Too:

While Marco Rubio has come out as a leader of the Republican Party on the issue of immigration reform, José Díaz Balart, the television anchor for Telemundo, isn't all that impressed with the rest of the party.
Speaking with Alex Wagner on MSNBC, he teased the GOP about the party's obvious ethnic bias in the debate.
"Let's remember that the 11 million people that are here illegally aren't just Latinos," he said. "There are some aryan, blond, blue-eyed people" that also need legal status.
In fact, according to a Pew Institute report, nearly 20 percent of undocumented immigrants in the U.S. are not originally from Latin America. About 1 million come from Asia, 600,000 are from Europe and Canada, and 400,000 are from Africa and other countries.
And, in contrast to the stereotype that the majority of undocumented immigrants are single men, nearly 30 percent are young women (between the ages of 18 and 39) and 17 percent are children under the age of 18.

Indonesia: Social media outrage after aspiring judge says rape victims "enjoy it"

Indonesia: Social media outrage after aspiring judge says rape victims "enjoy it": Responding to a question in his confirmation hearings about whether the death penalty should be applied to rapists, Indonesian Supreme Court candidate Daming Sanusi reportedly said, "Consideration needs to be taken thoroughly for the imposition of death penalty for a rapist because in a rape case both the rapist and the victim enjoy it."

This did not go over well with women in the predominantly Muslim country. More: CNN.com.

In response, Jakarta Post Managing Editor Primastuti Handayani wrote an incendiary op-ed:

Daming is not the only one making public statements blaming the victims of rape.

We still remember former Jakarta governor Fauzi Bowo’s remark when, last year, he advised women against wearing “provocative clothes” while using public transportation in order to avoid being raped. He made his statement after several gang rape cases on public minivans, including the rape of a Binus University student who was subsequently killed.
Fauzi then publicly apologized after his statement went viral and people condemned him.

Social media has helped society to become more aware of the irregularities occurring around them. Public pressure can often be conveyed more effectively through the media rather than channeling our voices through our representatives at the House in Senayan.

Health insurance rates going up by double digits: NYT

Health insurance rates going up by double digits: NYT:

Bing!

Remember that Nancy Pelosi told us that we needed to pass ObamaCare to find out what’s in it.  Barack Obama promised to “bend the cost curve,” too.  Looks like both of them were right, at least according to the Paper of Record, which discovers to its surprise that dumping nebulous mandates on insurers causes them [...]

Only In America–Observations – by a Canadian

Only In America–Observations – by a Canadian:
1) Only in America , could politicians talk about the greed of the rich at a $35,000.00 a plate campaign fund-raising event.
2) Only in America , could people claim that the government still discriminates against black Americans when they have a black President, a black Attorney General, and roughly 18% of the federal workforce is black while only 12% of the population is black.
3) Only in America , could they have had the two people most responsible for our tax code, Timothy Geithner, the head of the Treasury Department and Charles Rangel who once ran the Ways and Means Committee, BOTH turn out to be tax cheats who are in favor of higher taxes.
4) Only in America , can they have terrorists kill people in the name of Allah and have the media primarily react by fretting that Muslims might be harmed by the backlash.
5) Only in America, would they make people who want to legally become American citizens wait for years in their home countries and pay tens of thousands of dollars for the privilege while we discuss letting anyone who sneaks into the country illegally just ‘magically’ become American citizens.
6) Only in America , could the people who believe in balancing the budget and sticking by the country’s Constitution be thought of as "extremists."
7) Only in America , could you need to present a driver’s license to cash a check or buy alcohol, but not to vote.
8) Only in America , could people demand the government investigate whether oil companies are gouging the public because the price of gas went up when the return on equity invested in a major U.S. oil company (Marathon Oil) is less than half of a company making tennis shoes (Nike).
9) Only in America , could the government collect more tax dollars from the people than any nation in recorded history, still spend a Trillion dollars more than it has per year – for total spending of $7-Million PER MINUTE, and complain that it doesn’t have nearly enough money.
10) Only in America , could the rich people – who pay 86% of all income taxes – be accused of not paying their "fair share" by people who don’t pay any income taxes at all.
